As an intense advocate for her clients, Theresa is committed to meeting their individual needs by always putting their best interest first. She appreciates the importance of every one of her buyer’s and seller’s real estate transactions and treats each with the greatest of care. Theresa has a gift for finding homes that harmonize a client’s lifestyle while offering sage counsel for a wise investment.
In 2014, Theresa represented the largest residential real estate transaction in Northern Virginia history, ingraining her legacy in the industry. With over 20 years of real estate acquisition, development, and sales experience, she intuitively understands the implications of the various land use ordinances and can see possibilities in overlooked properties. With a passion for pursuing thoughtful infill development, Theresa is highly adept at her craft and sees potential in places most would not take a second look at. Beginning in 2013, Theresa spearheaded the effort to make the necessary zoning changes to allow for the National Capital Region’s first innovative Pocket Neighborhood of cottage homes in Falls Church City: RailroadCottages.com. It was Theresa’s vision that brought the cottage project to life. Additionally, Theresa specializes in identifying subdividable and underutilized properties, which have turned out to be exceptional investments for her investor/builder clients. As our Director of Land Use and Development at Advon Real Estate, buyers, sellers, builders, developers, and indeed her entire community have significantly benefitted from her involvement.
Theresa was raised in Wyoming, and her family remains deeply involved in the state. She attended the University of Wyoming on a classical vocal scholarship and earned a degree in English & Communications Education. Theresa then earned her Master of Arts in History & Sociology from Boise State University, with an emphasis on Irish Immigrant Women in the American West. Married to her high school sweetheart, an Air Force Academy graduate, the Twifords have had the pleasure of living in ten U.S. states and twice abroad where they traveled extensively. She has remained an advocate for military families throughout Colonel Twiford's many assignments as well as during his operational and deployed command tours. Theresa, J.R., and their children live in Falls Church City where she is thrilled to represent Advon Real Estate.
My proudest professional moment: When I purchased and restored a beautiful, old stone home that would have otherwise been knocked down and the neighbors came to the first open house to thank me.
Biggest Challenge: Zoning and funding- I’ve always joked that if it weren’t for zoning and money...
Alarm Clock: Ideally, I would sleep until 9 every morning. Heck, Winston Churchill often didn’t get out of bed until noon.
Perfect Day: Looking at real estate with my family and then going to Mad Fox for dinner together.
First Job: I ran the telephone system at a large hotel, back in the days when the calls need to be manually connected to the individual rooms.
Favorite NoVa Neighborhood: Falls Church City! No doubt, it is the best of all worlds- small town America within a cool metro area.
Inspiration: The architect Ross Chapin and all those dedicated to living better and more simply.
Advon is: A brokerage you can trust will look out for your best interest, not theirs.
